Ken Williams - on the road to recovery

Yesterday I received an update from Ken's son, Russell, who tells me that Ken had a bowel operation on Wednesday which was basically a repeat of an operation he had 11 years ago. The doctor told him that the problem probably meant that his body was unable to absorb the energy from food he was eating so I think he hopes to feel much better once he has fully recovered.  He can now get emails kent.williams@talktalk.net and he can use his mobile phone 07982715107, so do drop him a line whilst he recovers.

Beare Green Island Road Woks

Rode out to inspect the ten course this morning and spoke to the workmen. They expect the work to take another 2 weeks so the 2-up 10 on Wed 30th May I assume is definitely off!

I would like to comment however that the appoach to the road works is well signed and the lane closure is gradual. There is also a 30MPH limit in place which is about the speed riders would do approaching the road works.

I understand the reluctance and indeed the concern of CTT and the club to minimise hazards in the event of a time trial but frankly with the right warning and police cooperation I feel TT could take place. The disruption and slowing down of traffic already takes place and I found no problem in proceeding through the road works on my "Fixie" this morning. There is room with care for a car and a bike to pass side by side but the delay to any vehicle would be minimal when following a racing cyclist doing 30mph.

Keith Rook Update

Barry Togood informs that Keith had a nasty fall while on this mornings MTB ride on Ashtead Common catching his pedal on a concealed protruding log causing him go over the bars. He ended up in Epsom A&E and was released home around 1pm with an upper arm fracture where he is now recuperating on pain killers. He is expected to be off the bike for some 6wks and we all wish him well.
Keith speaking from first hand experience I can understand the pain you will feel, take it easy and follow the surgeons advice on the follow-up which I expect you will get in a weeks time. Try and get them to give you physio help as I found this most important once I could start these. Elasticated band may help. They may also recommend you start taking calcium tablets. In my case they put me on Adcal-D3 1500mg chewable tablets two per day (though I only take one) along with Alendronic acid 70mg once per week.
If I can be of any help please let me know mob 07802234836. Once you have the OK turbo training with one arm can at least keep you pretty fit before venturing out on bike again.

Ladies Divisional Road Race

We are hosting the Ladies Divisional Road Race once again this sat 19th May at 1.30. HQ is Loxwood village hall as last year. Could all the helpers be at the hall for 12.30 for briefing. We need donations of cakes please. Numbers are up this year so it should be an exciting race! Hope to post some photos up after the event. If you want to find out more, Simon and Jen are the ones to contact.

Evening 10 #2 Pictures

I was hoping to take some half decent photographs of the evening 10 but the woeful lighting conditions due to the weather and my cack-handedness rather put paid to that. Anyway, these are the best of a bad bunch.

Isle of Wight Randonnee

May Day Bank Holiday, so Maggie and I were off to the Isle of Wight, as usual, to ride the Randonnee.  It was a pretty hard go this year - very cold (4.4º at worst, never much over 8º), strong winds and rain.  Despite this we enjoyed our ride, though we probably enjoyed the hot bath afterwards rather more.
