Usual HQ as in the evening 10’s

We ride as a group (sort of) to the start on the A24 at Mill Lane, South Holmwood 1.7 miles from HQ, all uphill!

Start just in Mill Lane and continue south on A24 for 4.8 miles to 2nd Rbt, Clarks Green, were turn (10 turn) and retrace north to Beare Green rbt were LEFT into A29. for aprox 8 miles (through Ockley) to bear LEFT onto A281.

The next part is easy to go wrong. There are a number of rbts, keep on A281 /A264 towards the A24. (Do not go into the trading estate on your left)

To Farthing Hill rbt A24 junction. Bear left down slip road to join A24 North Bound. Keep on A24 to
Finish at railway bridge 1 mile south of start and just past the entrance to Beare Green village.

Update on Ron #2

Update on Ron.

Still in High Dependency Unit but making progress, and eating better.

Left lung and diaphragm not quite right but breathing better and oxygen % in blood higher.

Able to exercise out of bed now, 10 steps marking time, so improving all the time.

His birthday, 9th Oct, would be a nice date to aim at for homecoming.

All for now.
Cheerio,
Doreen

Ibbo Cake Ride

Not the best of days in fact the worst ever but I enjoyed myself as usual. My camera was soaked and completely fogged up so not a good picture of Sue Obbotson (John's mum) and me but then I'm always in a fog.

Thanks to all the helpers and marshalls for turning out in such awfull weather including Cristal & co Mick Ayliff and others! My 69 miles seemed more like 169!

Update on Ron

Update on Ron, not quite such excellent news but he's ok and they're not at all worried about him.

As from late Sunday he has had one or two nuisance niggles, including fluid in his left lung which is preventing him breathing deeply, this will probably be drained today.

But at least he's eating small amounts and enjoying it. He's in good spirits and has been for a walk with a nurse, accompanied by his tubes and bags on a stand on wheels of course.

He also might be able to ride the exercise bike.....that'll bump his year's mileage up!

Brian, Michael and his brother Frank have visited with me Sat, Sun and Mon. Frank C is coming with me today.

He won't be out till at least the weekend, possibly into next week.

Ron has had a lovely letter from Kev & Min (ex-wardens of Crockham Hill YH) which cheered him up no end.

Update on Ron

Brian asked me to say that Ron has had his heart bypass on thursday and is awake and in intensive care. Will be in for a week or so then back home for 3 months easy living! We wish him a speedy recovery as we do Ken Williams who has also had an opp and off the bike.

Jim Walsh Redmon 1926 to 2012

A number of KPRC members attended the funeral of Jim Walsh including Doreen & Ron, Lisa, Ray & me. I did not know Jim but know his brother Ned related to the Starey family. Bob was there with his uncle Joe. Mike Wakely appreciated our attendance and I spoke to Jim's wife who was pleased to see us. It seems that Jim was not only very active in the cycling field but was a school governor and a charity worker of quite some note. His son gave a very interesting insite into Jims life and indeed it made all those that attended very humble to think that one man could have done so much with his life and given so much to others.
