Majorca Trip 2013

Well that was a windy, cloudy and sometimes wet holiday! One day of sun and that was really really windy. 300 miles anyway. Got out every day. about 20 from our club went. Made lots of new friends, especially the Crawley Wheeler girls, who might come up and do our club 10 one wed eve.I would recommend this trip to anyone in the club as a very sociable cycling holiday. Look at the club facebook page for any photos. Not many of us by the pool!

After all the bad weather over the last few months, and the cancellation of the Medium Gear 25,it was a relief to run the first Evening 10 of the year with no need to cancel - either for weather/bad light or roadworks. Many of the riders had a scramble to arrive on time as the traffic on the A24 from the M25 seemed particularly bad, but all those that rode 'enjoyed' a brisk South-Westerly wind at their shoulder on the return leg.
Congratulations to Simon Trehearn who blew out of the water the theory that I was expounding to a number of riders wondering why they went "that slow" - by recording a PB! But I stand by my theory: riders cannot expect to go faster in April than they were going in the preceding September. Most of us just do not work that hard over the winter and only speed up again with racing and warmer weather.

Lisa

Sat rides for summer

As the clocks have changed we go on to summer rides list, which is The Vinerys changes to Ockham bytes. On the 2nd sat of month. Some riders have expressed a need for a longer ride sat to meet up with the usual lot at 11s! We could start 9.30 and do an extra 10 miles, but I need feedback and someone to lead the ride!

'Bespoked' Hand Made Bicycle Show, Bristol

Off to Bristol today, to visit 'Bespoked', running for the third year and a growing success.  Plenty of fancy bikes, some good to look at, some good to ride, made from all sorts of materials.  There were wooden bikes, bamboo bikes, titanium bikes and steel bikes - lots of shiny Reynolds 953 stainless.

Ricky Feather did well with 'Best in Show' for the second year running - a very pretty roadster - and Robert Wade got 'Best Road Bike' for his Swallow randonneur.  All the firms you would expect were there - Roberts, Moulton, Condor, Geoff Booker with some fancy trikes; Brooks with saddles and Royce and Middleburn with hubs and fittings.  I didn't see Mercian, who were there last year, but otherwise a full set, including Italian, French and American builders.

It's the place to go if you're shopping for a custom bike, and business is evidently booming.  Full reports on road.cc and bikeradar which give you the feel of an interesting day out.

9am Sunday rides

As spring has sprung and clocks moved forward the sunday rides will start at 9am till the clocks go back in Oct. Can you pass this on to anyone who might come out. Thinking of going to Sumners Ponds Barns Green 60 mile round trip this week? Lovely egg and bacon baps there. We were away doing the CTC Easter tour last weekend. 6 days in the cold wind 310 miles for me. 23 of us went. If you want to come next year tell Steve Gordon and he will add you to E mail list next October when we sort out where to go.
