This sundays ride Westerham

9am start Horton Park. The ride will be to Westerham Kent. I will lead shorter easy group. Need a leader for the maybe longer faster group! 50 to 55 mile round trip. Out through Banstead, Chipstead Valley past Fannys Farm then Merstham onto Bletchingley, where drop down south of Godstone and wiggle round Oxted to join A25 for last mile into Westerham. Home north up to Warlingham, Purley way! Got a few girls coming out so would be good to have more.

Sunday 26 May training ride

It was a brilliant ride today and very sociable thanks to all the efforts by Jake who lead the slow group (what it was annihilating 4 me on Fixie) and Dave 4 leading the fast group. We all rode back together and had a good time! Door 2 door 4me was 67 miles - well done everyone. We were most pleased to have Clarencourt join us & I was so glad to see Caroline in the group she is not only an amazing musician but a star cyclist!

It was also great to see Pete & Sue Swettman at the 11's venue they came along & said Hello!

On the way home I could not help but take a photo of the ponies just under the M25 on the Lower Ashstead Rd. from L'Head. The almost new-born did not look in good shape to me but maybe it was just enjoying the lovely sunshine so I rode on!

Open 10 on 15th June

Our open 10 is on sat 15th June. I will send an e mail out to all helpers . Everyone else can enter the event either by post to me or on line using CTT website clicking on Internet entries. £9 cheque made out to KPRC with entry form downloaded from CTT or home computer. I need to have them by 4th tues May please. This is a good chance for our newer members who are not free weekdays to try a 10 and see how they do against other riders! It starts at 2pm Spook hill Dorking. HQ this year is in Spookhill  road called North Holmwood Village Hall. Not much parking there so if all riders could park in usual carpark top of hill this would help.

KPRC Womens Div RR Champs

Mel & Andy preparing an excellent spread of cakes, sandwiches & drinks for competitors & helpers & supports. Well done & thanks to all who donated cakes etc.

Simon not quite stepping across the line!

Glynn Durrant checking the finishers it was the usual mad rush thanks to all who helped Glynn with their clip boards to check the numbers across the line.

And at marshalling point 3 where potential new member Simon (1st claim Festival?) who took photo of Russel Williams me & Russel Mantle (76yrs) who stopped off to chat. Un beknown to me he is well known by Ron & Doreen and a past fast man in his day with times of 22min for 10, 57min for 25 & 1.57 for 50 miles finishing 3rd one year in Nat champs 25TT. This was in the late 1950's. He has amassed 960,000 miles so far and is determined to go the million. We wish him well! Strangely enough he has never heard of Ray Dare, perhaps he's too old for him!

Isle of Wight Randonnée

May Bank Holiday, so off to the Isle of Wight to ride the Randonnée.  This year was the best for a while, with blue skies and warm sunshine all the way, and almost no wind.  We had a grand ride - our fastest ever.  (Not by much, but you take what you can get, at our age.)

There have been some changes to the event, reflecting the growing popularity of cycling.  The ride has previously alternated direction around the Island, which gives quite a different experience.  From this year the direction is fixed as clockwise in order to avoid bike jams on the Chain Ferry, where you see Maggie above.  Entry has also changed.  Previously you could just turn up and sign on on the line.  Growing numbers have meant that it is now online entry only, with numbers capped at 2000.  It was fully subscribed weeks before the start, so if you fancy a ride next year be sure to get in early.

67.9 miles, 4,389 feet of ascent and a rolling average of 11.9mph, all on the magnificent Flying Gate - Prince of Tandems.

Our thanks to the IoW Wayfarers for another great event, and for the Mums and PTAs at the schools around the Island for the cakes.

A warm day led into a bright, clear and cooling evening, with the air somewhat chilly on the lungs. The wind was northerly and seemed to be dropping into the evening but whether that was enough to be of benefit is another matter.
